CHESTER ENGINEERS APPOINTED ENGINEER OF RECORD IN THE BAHAMAS
Local engineering consulting firm, Chester Engineers, Inc. was recently appointed the Engineer-of-Record for the Bahamas Water and Sewerage Corporation. Chester Engineers, Inc. President & CEO, Robert O. Agbede, and his firm were selected among several internationally known companies to oversee the design and construction of numerous development projects for the communities served by the Bahamas Water and Sewerage Corporation. The selection of Chester Engineers, Inc. brings to the forefront, the company's goal to expand its business operations in the international market and to provide solutions and services to communities requiring the design, development, and updating of the public infrastructure linking the water and wastewater management systems.
The Bahamas is a major step towards realizing the Chester Engineers vision of putting technology to work to ensure a clean, safe environment for the world, Agbede said. Donald Demeritte, chairman of the Bahamas Water and Sewerage Corporation, notes, We looked around the world for a competent and experienced company that had the ability to adapt and function in our culture. As important as that was, it also was imperative that the firm have the technical know how to work with us as a strategic partner in developing a road map to modernize our infrastructure throughout our many islands. Demeritte says the Bahamas, a leading tourist destination, is in the midst of a huge development boom that is bringing huge anchor projects to our dozen or so major islands. We are talking about roughly 14 billion dollars worth of development and expansion, and we need an appropriate level of infrastructure to handle that, especially on the water side. We are looking in the area of 600 million in water infrastructure.
The selection is equally important for Chester Engineers. The Bahamas appointment represents a significant step for us, Agbede says. We are moving into the international arena, and in the not-too-distant future we want to start looking at projects that will take the firm to Asia, Middle-East and Africa. There are some upcoming projects we are presently evaluating that will give us the opportunity to connect with people in these regions. Agbede will be directly involved with the Bahamas Water and Sewerage Corporation to ensure the effective management of the assignment.
